Our nursery is split into 4 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.
Here at Honeytree Nurseries Portishead our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.
Tiny Tots: 0-2-year olds
We offer places to babies from 6 weeks to 2-years old into our bright and welcoming room. The stimulating room offers a variety of sensory opportunities which helps develop their awareness and curiosity of the world around them. Music is a large part of the day in this room and the babies enjoy singing and signing with the staff. The team ensure that there is also some messy activity provide for the children, this maybe painting, sand, water, jelly and even custard, you name it we do it!
We have an adjoining sleep room which allows the children to have quiet time and sleep throughout the day whenever they need to.
The children are cared for by qualified staff and each child is assigned a keyworker. This person ensures that a secure and positive bond is built, they provide individual care routine which is tailored to the child’s individual and specific needs. The keyworker liaises with parents at the end of the day to inform them of how their child has been that day so that no aspect of the nursery day is missed.
Busy Bees: 2-3-year olds
This room starts to promote independence, the children are able to access the toys that they would like to play with. There are various different areas which the children can access to help promote their development. We have a sensory room which the children enjoy exploring the different coloured rope lights and torches. This room also becomes a sleep room after lunch so that each child can have quiet time or a sleep if needed. We have a cosy book corner for the children access books and a lovely home corner where the children are encouraged to express their creativity. We develop their creative skills also by providing messy play activities and music and movement. The children have direct access to the garden so we can maximise free flow activity and extend their learning in the outdoor environment. The staff liaise with parents at the end of the day to inform them of how their child has been that day so that no aspect of the nursery day is missed.
Preschool: 3-5-year olds
Preschool children are able to freeflow between the different areas of the room including the outside garden, creating endless learning opportunities. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, this actively encourages learning through play and so through continuous provision, observations and planning all of the childrens individual needs are being met through the activities provided on a daily basis. We have an adjoining room, ‘Quiet room’, which allows the children to escape from the hustle and bustle of the main room. In here they can look through books, explore our sensory objects including lights and have quiet time or a sleep if needed. Whilst in the preschool room children are encrouaged to develop their independence and skills ready for the transition to school. To help with this big transition we offer a programme tailored for children entering school in the following academic year, ‘Rising Star’s’. This programme helps children develop vital and crucial skills that they will need when starting school such as; concentration and listening development, gross and fine motor skills development, social development and finally in the last term discussing their schools and their individual emotional needs. During this group sessions we also teach basic PE and playground games as these are new things that can sometimes be overlooked when a child starts school. For all the other children we also provide small group time as part of the routine. This is a time that is spent with their keyworker doing an adult led activity which is based on their interests and next steps. The staff liaise with parents at the end of the day to inform them of how their child has been that day so that no aspect of the nursery day is missed.
To share with parents their child’s development we hold 3 parents evenings a year (1 per term). This gives us a chance to share achievements, concerns, offer support and share next steps with each parent and to see what we can implement both here at Honeytree but also at home.
Here at Honeytree Day Nursery and Preschool our sessions run from 8am – 6pm however, we do offer an early start option from 7.30am. We are open 51 weeks of the years and closed for one week over Christmas and New Year. We are also closed bank holidays.
