Our nursery is split into 3 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.
Here at Honeytree Nursery Portishead our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.

Tiny Tots: 0-2 year olds
We offer places to babies from 3 months to 2 years old into our bright and welcoming room. The stimulating room offers a variety of sensory opportunities which helps develop their awareness and curiosity of the world around them. Music is a large part of the day in this room and the babies enjoy singing and signing with the staff. The team ensure that there are also some messy activities ranging from sand and water to jelly and custard!
Equipped with a soft play area and designated sleep room, they benefit from their own garden free from the hustle and bustle of older children.
The children are cared for by qualified staff and each child is assigned a keyworker. This person ensures that a secure and positive bond is built, they provide a care routine which is tailored to the child’s individual and specific needs. The keyworker gives each parent daily feedback on how their child has been so that no aspect of the nursery day is missed.
Busy Bees: 2-3 year olds
This room starts to promote independence, encouraging the children to access the toys that they would like to play with from the various areas designed to facilitate their development.
We have a sensory room which the children enjoy exploring the different coloured rope lights and torches. This room also becomes a sleep room after lunch so that each child can have quiet time or a sleep if needed. We have a cosy book corner for the children access books and a lovely home corner where the children are encouraged to express their creativity. We develop their creative skills also by providing messy play activities and music and movement. The children have direct access to the garden so we can maximise free flow activity and extend their learning in the outdoor environment. The staff provide daily feedback to each parent so that no aspect of the nursery day is missed.
Pre-school: 3-5 year olds
he pre-school day is divided into time spent with their keyworker doing an adult led activity and freeflow between the different areas of the room including the garden, creating endless learning opportunities. An adjoining ‘Quiet room’, provides a space where children can look through books, explore our sensory objects including lights and have quiet time or a sleep if needed.
To help with this big transition we offer a programme tailored for children entering school in the following academic year, ‘Rising Stars’. This programme helps children develop the skills necessary to become school ready including ; gross and fine motor skills, social development, the ability to concentrate and listen; and finally in the last term discussing their schools and their individual emotional needs.
Daily feedback is provided to parents at home time and the activities they engaged in. For more in depth conversations on their child’s development we hold 3 parents evenings a year (1 per term).
